Japan 2017 (Day 3): Ueno Park and Zoo + Food Hopping at Ikebukuro

Ueno Zoo

We wanted to dedicate this day for Ikebukuro only, but since we have more free time in the morning (or so we thought), we added a destination to our itinerary. We rode the Tokyo Metro and headed to Ueno Park and Ueno Zoo! Afterward, we ate… a lot. We visited many attractions in Ikebukuro, which involved food, and we didn’t regret it. In fact, we were so full that we didn’t need dinner lol.

Japan 2017 (Day 2): Shibuya’s 2.5D Cafe in Harajuku + Meiji Shrine + NHK Hall

Meiji Temple

Day 2 of our Japan, and with proper sleep! It was tiring yesterday, so we decided to only have three items in our itinerary and stayed in one area—Shibuya. We had our lunch at Touken Ranbu x 2.5D Cafe in Harajuku, roamed around Omotesando, visited Meiji Shrine, and watched Shimono Hiro’s birthday live at NHK Hall. On our way home, we got sidetracked at a store and our budget is thanking us for not buying anything (although I’m so tempted!).

Japan 2017 (Day 1): Arrival + Asakusa’s Senso-ji + Akihabara + Marunouchi Picadilly, Ginza

Asakusa Sensoji Temple

Before the year ends, I’d like to get started on my overdue Japan posts. When I came back to the PH, I blogged the important ones and thought I shouldn’t write about my trip in detail anymore. When I browsed through my photos, however, I realized that there’s still a lot to say during my 10-day trip… so here it goes lol.

For our first day, we were kinda groggy because we got an early morning flight. Not to mention that we went straight to our destinations instead of resting at our accommodation upon arrival. We went to Asakusa to visit Senso-ji, Akihabara for the Yuri!!! on ICE x Adores Cafe collaboration, and Marunouchi Picadilly at Ginza for the live viewing of Yuri!!! on Stage.

Mt. Inari Hike: A Nature Trail Going to the Mountain Peak of Fushimi Inari

Fushimi Inari Yotsutsuji Intersection

Visiting shrines, hiking (and losing some calories in the process!), exploring bamboo and pine tree forests, passing through thousands of torii gates, enjoying the overlooking view of the city with a beautiful sunset—everything you need to enjoy as a tourist in Kyoto is in Mt. Inari.

This mountain has many shrines, with Fushimi Inari Taisha being the most famous, as you go up. If you’re planning to visit during the peak season, expect lots of people. Lots and lots of them. It’ll be difficult to take decent photos and a short five-minute walk to the shrine could become 10 or 15 because of the slow walking crowd.

Trust me. I already learned my lesson from last year’s visit, but since our trip was dependent on an event, we had to fly to Japan during the Golden Week. While this is the case, it didn’t stop us from climbing the peak.

Anime Plaza is known for collaborating with famous anime titles, like the ones I’ve been to (Yu Yu Hakusho and Yuri!!! on ICE) earlier this year, but the catch is their cafe reservations are strict for members only. While you think you don’t have a chance, it’s actually easy even if you’re from overseas — all you need is to register, join a lottery, and wait for an e-mail for your reservation. No payment needed yet!
