Hyper Projection Engeki “Haikyuu!!” Exhibit at Gallery AaMo, Tokyo Dome

Hyper Projection Engeki Haikyuu Exhibit at Gallery Aamo, Tokyo Dome

After watching Hyper Projection Engeki “Haikyuu” Winners vs. Losers at Tokyo Dome City Hall, we went straight to Gallery AaMo for the exhibit. We chose the right schedule because the hype from the stage play hasn’t died down yet and here we are seeing the costumes, props, and stage they used in the previous plays.

The Opening

The first part of the exhibit was a short film showing about the previous to the recent stage play. The video was shown through a projector with a volleyball net occupying half of the screen. Of course, any form of recording was not allowed. The staff then gave a few instructions before they finally let us in.

The Costumes and Props

What welcomed us first was Hinata with his bicycle, which I wasn’t able to take a photo because of the crowd, and Kageyama with his crown and cape. As you proceed, you’ll also see Ukai-san at Sakanoshita and other corners where they displayed the costumes of Karasuno, Aoba Josai, Datekougyou, Nekoma, and Tokonami.

What I liked about how they featured the props is they made it look like how they’re organized backstage. It’s making you feel like you’re part of the cast and staff.

The Photo Area

There was a photo area where you can take snaps with Hinata’s famous line, “Dakara… ore ni toss, mottekoi!!!” (That’s why… bring me the toss!!!) and the Haikyuu stage play logo (along with a volleyball). The photos below are grabbed from the exhibit’s official Twitter.

First photo: Suga Kenta (Hinata Shoyou) and Kimura Tatsunari (Kageyama Tobio).
Second photo: Ino Hiroki (Sugawara Koushi) and Akisawa Kentaro  (Sawamura Daichi).

There was also a stage replica, which occupied most of the exhibit area. You can go up (it’s elevated) from the left and go down at the right side. There are cases when they make you change your footwear, but if you’re wearing rubber shoes, then you’re good. As far as I know, you can’t take a photo at the stage… or maybe I was wrong. Everyone was doing it, so we asked the staff to take a photo of us as well.

The Extras

[Warning: This part contains spoilers.] We went to the exhibit during the last day of the current stage play, so we weren’t able to see the props they added. I was kinda envious after seeing the tweets of their official Twitter. </3

Like this makeshift restaurant, which was the highlight of the ending part of the play. The crow, Oikawa’s orchestra clothing, tobio (the fish), Takato and Shouri’s women’s clothing, and the (Nekoma) cat head were there as well.

During the second to the last day of the exhibit, Suga Kenta became part of the staff. He took a photo with the messages wall (wasn’t there when we went) and when he was standing at the cashier area. There was also a time when he went to the exhibit between the first and second show and took photos with the visitors. </3

Also, Gallery AaMo held a hashtag campaign (#演劇ハイキュー展行ってきた) where you can win all of the character cards. Yes, as in from each cast of all the teams. They only had this info in the exhibit’s Japanese version, though.

The Floor Plan

As a recap, the floor plan looks like this (see below). An hour would be enough to look at everything and take photos, but I wish we had another hour because it’s difficult to take decent shots with all the crowd. OTL

  1. Opening (film viewing)
  2. Kageyama with cape and crown, and Hinata with bicycle
  3. Ukai-san at Sakanoshita and Karasuno jerseys
  4. Backstage-themed corner with props

Being a fan of Haikyuu!! in general, I’ve always enjoyed its stage play and have been visiting Japan for it. Of course, it hasn’t disappointed me ever since. I’m looking forward to their future plays!
